Pharmaceutical clinical trials firm INC Research Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: INCR) plans a major expansion to its Wake County headquarters, investing $37.9 million in its operations and creating 550 jobs in Morrisville over the next several years, officials said Tuesday.

“We’re pleased to announce our continued commitment to North Carolina,” Chief Executive Officer Alistair Macdonald said in a statement. “The talent base we’ve been able to attract in our Raleigh and Wilmington offices and across the state in recent years has been phenomenal. We look forward to continued strong growth here and across the globe and couldn’t think of a more suitable location to accommodate our growing employee base.”

INC Research already employs about 1,375 in North Carolina.The average annual salary of the new technical and professional employees will be $74,923. Wake County’s overall average wage is $52,315 per year.

The company has qualified for a Job Development Investment Grant of up to $8.4 million in employee withholding tax rebates over the next eight years. It must meet annual job creation and investment targets to obtain the grant money.
