Big Blue says it is opening four additional data centers in the U.S. to support its growing cloud, data businesses. However, RTP isn’t on the list.
The new centers will be built in Dallas and Washington, D.C. – two at each.
“Each of the four new facilities now open in the U.S. has the capacity for thousands of physical servers and offers a full range of cloud infrastructure services, including bare metal servers, virtual servers, storage, security services and networking,” the company said in a statement Wednesday.
“With services deployed on demand and full remote access and control, customers can create their ideal public, private or hybrid cloud environments.”
Research Triangle Park is the site for one of IBM’s big cloud-focused centers.
The tech giant also says it plans to build more centers in the future.
It now has 22 centers in the U.S. and more than 50 worldwide.
In an earnings report last week, IBM noted that cloud revenues surged by a third during the first quarter and have climbed to nearly $15 billion over the past year.
“IBM is making major investments to expand our global cloud data centers in 2017 and provide the infrastructure necessary for enterprises to run the cognitive, big data, blockchain and IoT workloads they require,” saidJohn Considine, general manager for cloud infrastructure at IBM in the announcement.
“IBM’s growing global cloud footprint across 19 countries and six continents gives enterprises the flexibility and scale to run their most complex workloads when and where they need.”
