The daily average of information technology job openings advertised across N.C. fell 5.5 percent in July from June, but the new IT Job Trends report from the N.C. Technology Association says the employment picture is better than the statistics indicate.

“While less job opportunities were posted on corporate websites hiring has not slowed down,” the report, based on data compiled by talent management firm SkillProof, says.

“The North Carolina Department of Labor reported that hiring in IT heavy industries is up with payroll increasing over the past 12 months. This may suggest that employers find a ready-to-work workforce where job openings are filled faster and the need displayed on corporate websites is not as great as in other states.”

However, the daily average in July was 310 fewer than July 2013 and well under the 4,890 advertised on average in July 2012.

The July slowdown was due in part to the financial sector, the report says.

“Last month, the decline in job postings was mostly caused by employers in the Financial Services industry. This sector showed a
significant increase on postings in June taking some of it back in July.”
