Google quietly released a beta update for its Chrome iOS Web browser using Apple’s TestFlight last week.
The beta can be downloaded online, and once installed and running, users will notice at least one major difference. The Chrome beta release for iOS (version 47.0.2526.53) adds support for Apple’s 3D Touch display.
3D Touch in Chrome for iOS will allow iPhone 6s and 6s Plus users to do three things using the Home screen app icon: launch a voice search inside Chrome, open a new incognito tab, and open a new regular tab in the Web browser. There are also new Bluetooth keyboard shortcuts included in the beta version.
Google is using Apple’s TestFlight platform in order to deploy and beta test the application. Traditionally, only 2,000 users are able to use an application on TestFlight simultaneously, yet it is possible that Google and Apple have worked out a deal to allow a higher simultaneous user cap. Apple acquired TestFlight in February 2014, and launched an iOS application for the platform on the App Store last year.
