Google Ventures (GV) has joined other powerhouse tech organizations opposing NC law HB2, which is viewed as discriminating against the LGBT community.

Although GV has not made any investments in North Carolina companies to date, it does share a focus on biotechnology with the Research Triangle.

Bill Maris, GV CEO, in addition to signing the human rights campaign letter along with many other top tech execs, sent a note to GV business partners saying “please flag any investments in NC that come through as I am not comfortable deploying dollars into startups there until the voters there fix this.”

Maris was previously a neuroscience researcher at Duke University. He wrote in his email that “I have a lot of affinity for the state and its people. I’m hopeful this will be repealed quickly.”
