Lenovo is getting ready to Tango, if you will, in the U.S. smartphone market.

A Google exec says Lenovo is rolling out its Lenovo Phab2 Pro equipped with Google-developed Tango 3D augmented reality technology next month. The starting price will be $499.

Lenovo recently pushed back the release date on the big phone from September to an unspecified “fall” launch date.

But on Tuesday, at Google’s big device show in San Francisco, the head of virtual reality development told Cnet that Lenovo’s room-sensing phone will go on sale in November.

Lenovo engineers, including a team led by Morrisville-based Jeff Meredith, have worked with Google to incorporate the Tango technology. Meredith has told WRAL TechWire that the new phone “blows away” other smartphones.

Once launched, it’s believed that the Phab2 would be Lenovo’s first entry into the U.S. smartphone market other than Motorola phones. Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility from Google in 2014.

Phab, by the way, is a reference to “phablet,” a term that applies to smartphones that are almost PC tablet in size.

The Phab2 is a hand full, featuring a 6.4 inch screen.

(Note: WRW has reached out to Lenovo for comment and will update the story later as needed.)
