Marye Anne Fox, the first female chancellor at N.C. State, is retiring from the board of directors at Red Hat where she has served since 2002.

Raleigh-based Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) announced Fox’s pending departure on Monday.

Fox will step down when Red Hat hosts its 2015 annual stockholders meeting. 

The company said Fox, who is Chancellor Emerita at the University of California, San Diego, “intends to spend additional time with her family.”

“We all deeply appreciate the stewardship that Marye Anne has brought to Red Hat since 2002. During her tenure on the board, Red Hat has grown enormously,” said General H. Hugh Shelton (U.S. Army Retired), who is chair of the Red Hat biard. “We wish Marye Anne the very best.”

At Red Hat, Fox is a member of the compensation committee and nominating and corporate governance committee.

Fox led NCSU from 1998-2004.
