Web design startup Smashing Boxes is leasing 6,200 square feet of office space at the new Diamond View III office building on the American Tobacco Campus.

The firm leaves the American Underground, having grown to a staff of 37 people from five three years ago.

“Smashing Boxes is extremely excited about the step up into bigger space,” says co-founder Nick Jordan. “Our current space was designed for 15 people, but we’ve managed to pack in over 30, so it’s definitely time to spread out a bit. The move signifies the transition of our company from entrepreneurial startup to an entrepreneurial minded growth business.”

Smashing Boxes clients include Cisco, Knowledge Tree and Quintiles.

“Whenever one of our companies hits its max here and needs to keep growing elsewhere, the American Underground celebrates,” said Adam Klein, chief strategist for the American Underground. “Growth and success is what we’re all about. We’re thrilled for Smashing Boxes’ success and happy this smart company has found a new, roomier home at the American Tobacco Campus.”

The American Tobacco complex, which is celebrating its 10th year, is operated by Capitol Broadcasting, the parent firm of WRALTechWire.
