American Underground, the startup hub that is home to more than 100 startups, is adding new faces to fill out its team.

Meredith Burgess has been named as director of marketing and Molly Demarest has been named director of operations.

An alum of N.C. State University, Burgess has worked with the Visual Art Exchange as exhibitions director. She has also worked with the SPARKcon festival and says she sees sees commonalities between the inventive minds of artists and the minds of entrepreneurs.

“The artists I worked with were creative and energetic, much like the entrepreneurial community,” Burgess said in a statement. “Everyone from startups to Fortune 500 companies are prioritizing the creative process to tackle challenges facing their organizations and their industries.”

Demarest, who holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, has experience in Japan and Belgium studying foreign business methods. She also worked for three years as a financial consultant and business coach for Fleet Feet Sports.

American Underground is operated by Capitol Broadcasting, which owns the American Tobacco Campus and is also parent to WRALTechWire. American Underground operates two Durham locations, the original underground on the American Tobacco Campus and and a downtown location on Main Street called Underground@Main. This summer, American Underground announced plans to launch a third Triangle location in downtown Raleigh called @Raleigh.
