Ever year since 2011, Epic Games has been a featured presenter at Apple’s annual showcase conference. But on Monday, some users voiced frustration about Epic’s l-o-n-g development cycle for its forthcoming “Fortnite.”

Yes, Fortnite will be made available for Apple OS. But when? The game was announced in 2011, but that was before a host of management changes and a selling of a big stake in the company to a Chinese firm in 2012.

“Epic Games revealed the game will be coming to Mac, along with the PC version, at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference today,” noted Gamespot.

Yes, there’s a new trailer.

Yet: “A more specific date was not provided, only that it would be sometime in the remainder of this year.”

The Cary-based gaming technology company that Apple showers with love, showcased the latest updates of Fortnite on on Apple’s big stage. Still, the game is a long way from being released, and the people wanting Zombie combat are getting antsy.

Apple’s San Francisco developers conference drew the usual glut of international media attention, with a new music service garnering the most attention.

And there again was a team from Epic, which helped give Apple gaming a big boost with its “Infinity Blade” series and the company’s decision to add Apple OS to its programming capabilities.

Epic’s latest update is that it plans a “closed beta” testing program later this year.

Said Epic in a blog post: “We’re so excited to have these opportunities to show off the game again and hope you like what you see as we get closer to our closed beta later this year! “

But to some Epic fans that’s not enough.

Note some of the comments posted at Epic from fans:

  • ArchySniper: “Guys its taking you sooo long to develop this game…. Are there some big problems with it? It supposed to be first game made on UT4.” [Unreal’s latest game development engine from Epic].
  • oussamalajimi: “this a best game I want that I play as soon as possible And also I want access code to the game plz

Fortnite will be free, but how many people will give up before it’s time to play?
