With millions of players lining up play Cary-based Epic Games’ new Fortnite online, the company is using lawsuits as a tool to crack down on people it accuses of cheating to “gain an unfair advantage.”
“When cheaters use aimbots or other cheat technologies to gain an unfair advantage, they ruin games for people who are playing fairly,” an Epic spokesperson tells WRAL TechWire.
“We take cheating seriously, and we’ll pursue all available options to make sure our games are fun, fair, and competitive for players.”
An aimbot, sometimes called “auto-aim,” is a type of computer game bot used in multiplayer first-person shooter games to provide varying levels of automated target acquisition to the player, according to Wikipedia.
Fortnite has proved to be very popular since its recent launch, drawing tens of thousands of players competing simultaneously.
In the game, 98 percent of the world’s population has disappeared and these terrible storms have ripped across the Earth releasing all of these creatures. A small band of heroes has been formed by the player to form a resistance against all these creatures and rescue the people who have been left behind. They form a giant fortress to protect them and push back the storm, according to Epic.
