In today’s roundup of technology news: a compound found in aged cheese and mushrooms may prevent liver cancer and extend life; million dollar flying car coming; dry your clothes in half the time with sound.

Eat your cheese

A compound in aged cheese, mushrooms, and leafy vegetables may prevent liver cancer and extend life, says new research published in Cancer Journal.

Spermidine, found in aged cheese (such as blue cheese), shellfish, and other foods, extended the life of animals feed an oral spermidine supplement.

“It’s a dramatic increase in lifespan of animal models, as much as 25 percent,” says Leyuan Liu, assistant professor at the Texas A&M Institute of Biosciences and Technology’s Center for Translational Cancer Research. “In human terms, that would mean that instead of living to about 81 years old, the average American could live to be over 100.”

Dryer uses sound to dry clothes in half the time

Scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee have developed an ultrasonic dryer that will holler a large load of clothes dry in half the time of convention ones.

It does it with high frequency vibrations that shake the water from your clothes.

Scientists say it could cut drying time for a medium load of clothes from 50 minutes to 20 minutes. That would save a chunk of the $9 billion a year – 4 percent of annual energy budgets, consumers use on electric dryers now. Ultrasonic Dryers
