Durham has gained repeated national attention for it burgeoning startup culture, fueled by multiple downtown incubators and hundreds of fledgling companies throughout the city. A new report from Thumbtack.com lists Durham as number 9 on a list of the top ten cities for Millennial entrepreneurs.

The report notes that Millennials include Mark Zuckerberg, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Lena Dunham, all born between 1980 and 2000.

Calling Millennials “generation startup,” the report notes that more than a quarter of them are self-employed and they are launching a remarkable 160,000 startups a month.

The Thumbtack Small Business Friendliness survey was based on responses from 18,000 small business owners nationally. It asked questions about friendliness of local tax laws, licensing rulesk the regulatory environment, and the opportunities for training and networking – which are substantial in Durham and the Triangle generally.
