Scrap Squad, an app that asks players to accumulate points by properly recycling, is among the top new games this week in the iTunes store. The app, created by Durham-based Relevant Games, is also available for Android devices.

Players take on the role of a mad scientist who must match trash on a conveyor belt with the right robot to recycle it. The speed of the conveyor belt builds over time and the scientist can earn upgrades to build and enhance the robots.

Scrap Squad, with its environmental focus, was released April 22 to coincide with Earth Day.

Relevant Games is a joint venture of Capitol Broadcasting Company, the parent of WRALTechWire and WRAL-TV, and E.W. Scripps Company.
