Durham County Commissioners approved $20 million in backing over ten years for the Park Center project intended to help refresh Research Triangle Park with the type of urban campus increasing popular among tech companies. The Park Centre project, for instance, includes plans for residential, retail and restaurants, two hotels and an on-site food market.

Durham also approved a new zoning district Monday called “Science Research Park-Center,” which allows a mix of uses not generally typical of county zoning.

A meeting is scheduled for Thursday where Bob Geolas, president and CEO of the Research Triangle Foundation, will make a historic announcement regarding the future of Research Triangle Park.

The Research Triangle Foundation of NC said Geolas will announce a path forward for the 100-acre Park Center property.

Recent action has allowed RTP leaders to make plans for future development of the site public. The event will include new details about amenities included in the site plan. There will also be opportunities to view updated maps, renderings, a new site model and items from a recently completed retail plan.
