Patheon, a provider of pharmaceutical-related services, is expanding its drug manufacturing plant in Greenville and will add 488 jobs as part of the project. The company is receiving tax incentives as part of the deal.
The state of North Carolina awarded a Job Development Investment Grant to Patheon on Friday morning.
Patheon could receive as much as $6.3 million over 12 years if all 488 jobs are created. The company would receive a rebate on 59 percent of state income tax withholdings for new jobs created.
The company will invest $159 million to expand the Greenville operation where it already employs some 1,000 people.
Patheon also will establish its first “sterile” site in North America at the Greenville plant plus expand its Pharmaceutical Development Services group.
Patheon is part of DPx Holdings.
As part of the agreement, Patheon agreed to retain all current employees – more than 1,600 – at plants in Durham, Greenville and Highpoint.
The expansion is the second announced Friday by a Triangle firm. Earlier, Argos Therapeutics said it would add 230 jobs at a new production facility in Durham County.
