Michael Chasen, the recently named CEO of Raleigh drone startup PrecisionHawk, went to the White House on Thursday for some face-to-face time with President Trump.

“There is a lot of excitement about the economic opportunities in America and we want to continue moving that forward,” Chasen told the President.

Chasen was one of a select few representing the drone industry that was invited to a meeting at the White House to meet with Trump and representatives from various regulatory agencies, PrecisionHawk tells The Skinny.

According to news site re/code, Chausen made the case for less regulation of the drone industry.

Chasen “asked Trump to address restrictions that are ‘limiting what drone technology can do,'” re/code reports. “With more federal permissions, [Chausen] said, ‘we can stay competitive with other countries.’

Trump also meet with AT&T and other executives in the wireless industry as well as several venture capitalists as part of a technology focus this week in the White House.

The meeting was in the latest effort by the White House to focus on innovative technologies as a way of spurring job growth, Reuters noted.

“Michael Kratsios, the White House’s deputy chief technology officer, told reporters the goal of the sessions is to find ways the United States ‘can maintain its leadership creating and fostering entirely new technologies that will drive our economic growth,'” the news service added.

In a Facebook post, PrecisionHawk noted:

“Since its inception, PrecisionHawk has immersed itself at the forefront of policy and technology development efforts that help shape favorable drone regulations in America. We are honored to contribute to the conversation at the White House aimed at propelling policy, innovation and economic growth.”
