Software developer Mi-Co has won recognition for tablet software it developed to make clinical trials nearly paperless.

The Durham company received a 2013 Microsoft Life Sciences Innovation award. The honor was announced in Boston this week during the Drug Information Association’s annual conference. Mi-Co’s Mi-Forms software eliminates paper case report forms for a multi-site clinical trial. Mi-Forms runs on Microsoft’s .NET software platform.

Award submissions came from companies using Microsoft technology in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, clinical research, and medical device applications. A panel of industry experts selected winners based on how the innovation represents a breakthrough from the industry and how their innovation goes beyond incremental improvements on existing technologies and improves the company’s ability to get safer and more efficacious products or services to market faster by reducing complexity, lowering cost, or enhancing speed and quality.
