Citrix Systems, which bought Raleigh-based ShareFile in 2011 and has more than 600 employees in the city, is merging its GoTo business with LogMeIn.

Citrix shareholders will get LogMeIn shares worth $1.8 billion. The merger comes instead of the spinoff of GoTo as a public company that Citrix previously announced.

Most people who do business online have used one or both services. LogMeIn products include: LastPass, LogMeIn, and BoldChat and Rescue.

The combined company, led by LogMeIn CEO Bill Wagner, will have 2 million customers and more than $1 billion in annual revenue. Citrix will own 50.1 percent of the business.

Citrix reported second quarter results that topped analyst expectations Tuesday, with revenue of $843 million, an increase from $797 million in the same period a year ago. It reported earnings of 77 cents a share on net income of $121 million, up fom $103 million last year.
