Cisco Systems is cutting 310 jobs at its Jan Jose headquarters in California, the company said in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing. No word has been said so far about cuts at its Research Triangle Park campus.
Cisco said earlier this year that restructuring would impact 1,100 employees in the company, but did not specify how that might affect the RTP operation, which has been affected by several rounds of layoffs. The company has 5,700 employees in North Carolina, primarily in the RTP.
Most of the jobs cut in San Jose are in engineering, software, and technical positions, but also include administrative, management and support staff.
Cisco, the largest computer equipment manufacturer, won JDIG jobs grant worth up to $12.9 million in 2014 when it said it planned to boost head count in the RTP facility by 550 employees by the end of 2017. The RTP campus is the region’s second largest employer.
