Networking giant Cisco, which operates one of its largest corporate campuses in RTP, is cutting 310 jobs at its headquarters in San Jose, Calif.

The job cuts were disclosed in a filing with the state of California.

Cisco has not filed such a warning with the state of North Carolina, according to a Department of Commerce spokesperson.

“Cisco regularly evaluates its business and will always make the changes necessary to effectively manage our portfolio and drive the most value for our customers and shareholders,” the company said in the notice. “As a result, this can mean realigning some areas so that we can invest in others such as security, data center/cloud and networking.”

The cuts come as CEO Chuck Robbins continues to refocus the company away from proprietary hardware to software and services.

“We regret to inform you that Cisco Systems will lay off certain employees at its San Jose facility located at 170 W. Tasman Drive,” Cisco stated in the so-called WARN notice (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification ). “The action is expected to be permanent in nature.”

Cisco has some 73,000 employees worldwide, including several thousand employees and contractors in RTP.

The San Jose Mercury News reported that job cuts “appeared to be in engineering, software and other technical positions, although some appeared to be in administrative, management and support posts.”
