Charter Communications, which bought Time Warner Cable last year, on Tuesday formally rebranded Internet, cable and voice services as its Spectrum brand. In a Q&A, Spectrum’s Scott Pryzwansky talks about changes, offerings, and competing with rival service providers such as AT&T and Google Fiber.

Earlier this month Spectrum unveiled a new app to enable customers to access services across multiple devices.

The company also recently launched a drive to hire an additional 215 people in the Triangle.

  • How is Spectrum different than previous TWC offerings?

What is different about Spectrum is we offer the most HD, entry-level internet speeds of 100 Mbps with no data caps or modem fees, and a fully featured voice service without all the extra taxes and fees. Spectrum offers simplified package options and nationally uniform pricing.

  • Service offerings include?

Video, Internet, phone and Spectrum will continue to support IntelligentHome service for current customers, including 24×7 central station monitoring.

  • What’s impact on prices?

The effects of switching to a Spectrum package on price are impacted by many factors: The type of TV, Internet or voice package chosen, whether a customer is currently receiving promotional or other discounts, and desired equipment like DVRs or wireless routers. Customers can call us to discuss their options, and either choose a Spectrum package or retain their current package.

  • What’s fastest speed available?

We have a track record of offering faster speeds, with the fastest available starting speed of 100 Mbps, speeds up to 300 Mbps for residential customers, and multiple gigabit speeds for commercial customers. Consumers can expect we’ll continue to build on that record with faster speeds in the future.

  • Any plans at this time for fiber/gigabit service?

Spectrum is focused on the quality of our services and our network — delivering the most HD content, the fastest entry-level internet speeds available at 100 Mbps and fully featured voice service over a two-way, fiber rich network. Our network is engineered to have the capacity for more content, faster speeds and additional features and services well into the future.

We [do] provide multiple gigabit speeds for commercial customers.

  • How does Spectrum compete against providers with faster speeds such as Google Fiber and AT&T?

Pretty much the same answer as above – Spectrum is focused on the quality of our services and our network — delivering the most HD content, the fastest entry-level internet speeds available at 100 Mbps and fully featured voice service over a two-way, fiber rich network. Our network is engineered to have the capacity for more content, faster speeds and additional features and services well into the future.

  • Are all services at least 100 megabits?

Spectrum Internet will offer a starting speed of 100 Mbps, with speeds up to 300 Mbps.

Customers who are currently in a package with a top download speed of 50 Mbps will be upgraded to 60 Mbps when we introduce Spectrum, even if they remain in their current package. Again, customers can call us to discuss their options, and either choose a Spectrum package or retain their current package.
