Medical Murray is celebrating 20 years of innovation and expansion in the medical device industry, mere months after open house festivities at a new Medical Murray Southeast building near the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

The North Barrington, Illinois-based company was created by father and son team Phil and Andy Leopold, who saw a growing need for highly skilled medical device engineering. It’s still owned and operated by the Leopold family, now with 100 employees designing, developing, and manufacturing highly specialized catheters and intricate components used for a wide variety of minimally invasive procedures.

It also does contract manufacturing of unique complex catheter systems, permanent implants and complex components for vascular, urologic and surgical applications.

The company now leases 6,000 square feet in the Charlotte building, though it has an additional 6,000 square feet of shell space for subsequent expansion when needed.

The company established Medical Murray Southeast in Charlotte in 2012, but outgrew the original site and moved to the current building nearby in 2015. It has 10 full-time employees at the Charlotte site, supporting the medical community and filling a need for highly complex device requirements from concept to production.

Medical Murray also bought a 44,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Lake Zurich, Illinois, in early 2016, and opened a 2,500-square-foot development and contract manufacturing facility in May 2014 in San Carlos, California, in the San Francisco Bay area.
