Diana Semel Allen is joining ecommerce services provider ChannelAdvisor (NYSE: ECOM) as its general counsel and vice president.

Allen most recently worked for Durham-based Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) as associate general counsel and compliance director.

In October, ChannelAdvisor disclosed the pending departure of previous general counsel Scott Alridge. Under a separation agreement, Alridge provided “services” to the company though Dec. 31. Alridge also had served as vice president for new markets.

“Mr. Alridge’s separation is not the result of any dispute or disagreement related to the Company’s operations or operating results,” the company said in the SEC filing.

ChannelAdvisor announced Allen’s hiring on Tuesday. She joined the company, which went public last year, as of Jan. 6.

Allen will be tasked with regulatory compliance, commercial affairs, mergers and acquisitions and other legal affairs at the Morrisville-based company.

“Diana’s experience and expertise are great assets to ChannelAdvisor as we grow our global footprint while maintaining the high standard of integrity that is fundamental to the company,” said ChannelAdvisor CEO Scot Wingo in a statement. “Being a newly public company, it is essential that we have superior legal leadership to oversee all regulatory matters on a global scale. We are thrilled to welcome Diana to our team.”

Allen, who joined Cree in 2005, had earlier worked at Raleigh law firm Helms Mulliss & Wicker. She earned her law degree at Duke University.

“This is an exciting time for ChannelAdvisor, and I look forward to being part of the company’s continued development as the standard for multichannel e-commerce,” Allen said in a statement. “It’s my goal to ensure that ChannelAdvisor remains on course in all compliance matters and continues to best serve its customers and investors around the world.”

ChannelAdvisor provides ecommerce related software and services to companies around the world.
