Amazon joins Red Hat's new cloud computing program

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) is expanding its efforts to capitalize on the growing “cloud computing” market with a new Premier Cloud Provider Certification and Partner Program. And its first certified partner is Amazon Web Services, one of the first and largest cloud computing providers.

Through the new program, Red Hat and partners will collaborate on technical support, security, sales and marketing and hardware certification efforts.

Cloud services enable users to access collaborative computing power across multiple servers on demand and in other environments.

“Red Hat customers seek the flexibility to transfer and use Red Hat subscriptions on premise and/or in cloud environments, with support and compatibility,” Red Hat said in a statement. “Red Hat customers have also requested the ability to rent elastic computing by-the-hour with access to consistent, technical support, security updates and compatibility with existing IT resources.”

Red Hat also will work with partners on development and deployment of applications based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Middleware. Red Hat owns JBoss.

“By bringing together thousands of Red Hat-certified applications, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, JBoss Enterprise Middleware and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization we aim to deliver the next generation of computing architectures, today,” said Mike Evans, vice president of corporate development for Red Hat.
