RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- Nextreme Thermal Solutions, a startup focused on cooling technology for electronic devices, has licensed thermoelectric technology from the California Institute of Technology.

The intellectual property was developed a NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

"Their technology enhances Nextreme's competitive leadership position in the electronics cooling marketplace which provides exceptional value to our customers and investors," said Jesko von Windheim, chief executive officer of Nextreme.

Nextreme is a spin-off from RTI International where its underlying thermoelectric cooling technology was developed. The company is developing means of incorporating tiny solid-state cooling devices into the packaging for integrated circuit devices in order to prevent hot spots that can limit electronic device performance.
