RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Information technology jobs continue to become more available with the average daily listing of openings now topping pre-recession figures.

Certainly an encouraging sign within the numbers is a 300 percent increase in sales and marketing openings, from 70 a year ago to 320. Companies must be buying IT products.

But other numbers are up sharply as well, such as for IT management, IT architects and consultants, and developers.

That’s the good news from the latest IT Job Trends report from the North Carolina Technology Association and national talent management firm SkillProof.

Average daily openings for June reached 3,350, the report shows. That’s a jump of nearly 400 from May and nearly triple the 1,240 listings in June 2009.

The new figure also is higher than the 3,250 average daily listing in June 2008 just as the recession was really taking hold.

June’s increase of 12.8 percent also was the fifth in a row.

However, the report cautions that the upward trend may weaken.

“Going forward, we do expect a slow down,” the report said, noting the “traditionally slower summer season.”

“In addition, new economic worries are on the rise given the slow increase in payroll over the past months,” the report added. “The national IT job market showed signs of slowing growth expanding just 3 percent in June as compared to May.”
