I agree that Madison Ave. and entertainment is behind it as much as any computer company. Companies like Microsoft are moving applications there for much the same reason.
There's no irony lost that the ones pushing 'the Cloud' heavily were all late to the Internet party in the first place.
I won't have anything to do with a 'CLOUD' except for the weather. As a former IT admin, I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft antenna! I want my 'stuff' in front of me where I have control.

The CLOUD appears to have been thought up by marketing types along with the Music and Video (Movie) companies in an effort to further control the ownership of their products. They do not want you to own a high quality or master/reference quality copy of anything they "sell". They want to rent it to you and hold that "copy" in cyber space where you can access it when their server is not down. Call me old fashioned but I ain't doing business that way.
