"To balance our ability to remain competitive with the need to invest in people who have high-demand skills, there will not be a broad-based salary program in [Global Technology Services] in 2012," workers are told. While getting a raise is always a good thing, and very needed I would say that those folks who got to keep their jobs should be happy with that. A paying job (even without a raise) is better than no job. I would think that they would realize that.
Nothing worse than some dumb fool saying, "Be happy you have a job." You may as well tell your boss he can sleep with your wife too.
I worked at IBM for 34 years. Starting with Gerstner IBM has continuously become less interested in their employees and more interested in money. (I'll bet the Execs get their raises).
ANONYMOUS: ". A paying job (even without a raise) is better than no job. " I would agree with you if I didn't know that the executives are getting LOTS of extra money at the expense of the IBM minions. Until the execs are "suffering" with the rest of us, that is NOT A LEGITIMATE ARGUMENT.
