Sony Ericsson names new president for RTP-based North American unit
Anderson Teixeria, a veteran telecommunications executive, is the new head of Sony Ericsson North America.
The joint venture of Sony and Ericsson, which focuses on mobile devices, operates its North American headquarters in RTP. However, the group has fewer than 400 employees in the Triangle after slashing hundreds of jobs last fall.
Najmi Jarwala, who led the Sony Ericsson unit for four years, left last month.
As group president, Teixeria will be based in RTP. He had led Region Western Europe for Sony Ericsson. He is a native of Brazil and has worked with Sony Ericsson since the joint venture was created in 2001. He has led operations for the company in Latin America as well as Western Europe. Teixeria begins his new job June 1.
The joint venture warned on March 20 that it would report major losses for the most recent quarter even after the laoffs. Sony Ericsson announces earnings on April 17.
"Anderson has successfully led our Western European region through a difficult period and will provide Region North America with excellent leadership and a strong commercial focus,” said Sony Ericsson President Dick Komiyama in a statement.
“His international expertise, gained from a long and successful career in both Ericsson and Sony Ericsson in a number of markets will ensure that our North American operation strengthens its market position,” Komiyama added.
