Morrisville, N.C. —
Lenovo, the world’s No. 4 PC manufacturer with one of two headquarters in the Triangle, says construction delays, not the global economy, led to its decision to cancel a $20 million production plant in Poland.
"This decision is linked to the failure by the project's main real estate developer to respect the deadline for completing the site," Lenovo said in a statement, according to the news agency AFP.
AFP noted that the site and plant developer, which is a subsidiary of Immo Industry Group in Belgium, went bankrupt
Lenovo had planned to produce 5 million PCs a year and employ well over 1,000 people at the plant as part of its strategy to gain market share in Europe.
