Elon cools on idea of starting pharmacy school at N.C. Research Campus
Potential conflicts with other universities and the weak economy have cooled Elon University's interest in establishing a school of pharmacy at the N.C. Research Campus.
"There is some concern about this pharmacy possibility right now, with all the speed bumps we're encountering," said Dr. Steven House, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
But Elon still plans to play a pivotal role at the $1.5 biotechnology complex in Kannapolis, House said.
A private university near Burlington, Elon had proposed launching a pharmacy school at the Research Campus. But administrators may not pursue the idea because the University of North Carolina at Greensboro has named pharmacy its top priority for the UNC Tomorrow plan.
