NCSU’s tech transfer, Centennial Campus executive steps down

John Gilligan, vice chancellor for research and graduate studies at North Carolina State University, is stepping down.

Gilligan was responsible for NCSU’s Centennial Campus, technology transfer and state, federal, industry and foundation supported research programs. He will resume a teaching position at the College of Engineering as of June 1. He had served as a vice chancellor since 2002. Gilligan joined the NCSU faculty in 1983.

"N.C. State is a great university. I am especially proud of the new programs we have put in place to strengthen research and increase graduate student support," Gilligan said in a statement.

Under his direction, Centennial Campus added 19 research partners in 2006-07, and the campus was named top research science park by the Association of University Research Parks in 2007.

Terri Lomax, dean of the graduate school, will replace Gilligan on an interim basis.
