French Aerospace Firm Picks Union County for New Plant

French aerospace firm Turbomeca Manufacturing will build an aircraft parts manufacturing facility in the Union County city of Monroe and create some 180 jobs, the company and state officials said on Friday.

The state will provide a $2.5 million grant through the North Carolina Economic Investment Committee as an incentive to Turbomeca, the N.C. Department of Commerce said.

The firm also will receive a $500,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund that is directed by N.C. Governor Mike Easley. That grant is contingent on a match from local government agencies and partners.

As many as 180 jobs paying an average salary of $41,800 will be created.

Turbomeca is part of Safran Group. It was founded in 1938.
