The National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship will have its first public form on Tuesday with UNC-CH serving as the host site. The initiative was launched by the Obama Administration last September.

UNC-CH Chancellor Holden Thorp, who also is an inventor and entrepreneur, is a member of the committee and will lead a question-and-answer session at the event.

Ping Fu, chairman and chief executive officer of Triangle-based Geomagic software, also is a committee member. The group includes 24 people from private business, such as AOL co-founder Steve Case, and academia.

“It’s a great honor for Carolina to be asked to host the council’s first public forum and regional meeting outside Washington,” Thorp said in a statement. “This is an excellent opportunity for people who are interested in innovation and entrepreneurship to observe and participate in discussions that will help shape our council’s recommendations on national policy.”

The program begins at 9 a.m. All tickets to the event have already been reserved.

People can listen in by phone by calling 888-942-9574. The access code is 6315042.

Other confirmed attendees include:

  • Mary Sue Coleman, president of the University of Michigan and a UNC-Chapel Hill alumna and vice chancellor for research
