Duke Energy picks California, Massachusetts firms for more smart grid work

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Firms based in California and Massachusetts will work with Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) as part of the utility firm’s rollout of a smart grid in the Carolinas and Ohio.
Duke said Thursday it had selected Echelon Corporation and Ambiet Corporation for development of communications to link smart meters, sensors and other devices.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The companies have already worked with Duke on some projects.
