WILMINGTON, N.C. – Pharmaceutical Product Development (Nasdaq: PPDI) and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) are launching a joint effort to design a solutions platform for risk management and other FDA-mandated programs.
The companies said they want to develop a program that helps biotech and pharmaceutical firms comply with FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy, or REMS, programs.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
PPD, a provider of services to life science firms around the globe, will provide scientific, operational, regulatory and strategic support to the project.
The solution will utilize Microsoft’s Amalga Unified Intelligence System, a program for data aggregation, as well as Microsoft HealthVault, which is geared to individual consumers for storage and sharing of health information.
“Efficient, effective REMS programs require real-time access to information by multiple internal and external stakeholders,” said Mike Wilkinson, PPD’s executive vice president and chief information officer, in a statement. “We are committed to combining operational and scientific excellence with leading REMS-specific technologies for this rapidly evolving sector of our industry and are pleased to collaborate with Microsoft in this effort.”
