RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – RTI International is committing more than $2 million in launching a research center that will focus on how genetics and the environment mix in affecting human health.

Called Molecular Epidemiology, Genomics, Environment and Health (MEGEH), the center will concentrate on genetics, genomics, molecular epidemiology and links to the environment.

RTI is currently looking for a leader to direct the project.

"One of our first big investments will be recruiting the right person to lead this effort," said Jennie Hunter-Cevera, executive vice president of Discovery and Analytical Sciences and Corporate Development at RTI. "We are committed to becoming a leader in these fields and need someone with the vision, scientific background and leadership experience to succeed."

RTI already conducts research in genetics, bioinformatics, biostatistics, proteomics, high-performance computing and other areas.

According to RTI, its scientists will seek to “better define disease states and states of wellness and susceptibility to disorders and disease” and then help develop interventions and policies designed to promote personalized medicine and health.
