RALEIGH, N.C. – Siemens Energy will announce an expansion of more than 600 jobs at its operations in Charlotte on Thursday, according to media reports.
Both the Charlotte Observer and the Charlotte Business Journal are reporting that Siemens will receive tax benefits and support through federal tax exempt bonds for the project.
Siemens will invest some $130 million in the expansion and create some 600 jobs, the Observer reported. The Business Journal said the deal is worth “at least $170 million” and would generate “more than 800 jobs.”
Some operations in Canada will be transferred to Charlotte, according to the Observer.
Siemens manufactures turbines and generators in Charlotte at a complex where it owns 292 acres, the Business Journal said.
The North Carolina economic investment committee is expected to approve a contract with Siemens for the expansion today.
