RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – A trial in federal court that could have a major impact on the Linux operating system opened in Salt Lake City on Monday with The SCO Group’s lawyer taking aim at Novell and IBM.
“Novell Inc. lied about owning the copyrights for the Unix computer operating system then collaborated with IBM to damage Unix owner The SCO Group, the latter's attorney told a federal court jury Tuesday,” reads the story from The Salt Lake City Tribune.
The legal dispute, which has been going on for years, includes efforts by The SCO Group, which owns Unix, to link developments in Linux to intellectually property linked to Unix.
The trial could have repercussions in the Triangle.
Red Hat, the world’s top Linux software developer, is based in Raleigh.
IBM employs some 10,000 people in RTP.
