RALEIGH, N.C. – Life science executives, entrepreneurs, policy makers and those wanting to do business with biotech, medical device and pharmaceutical firms will gather Monday and Tuesday in Raleigh for the 19th annual Council for Entrepreneurial Development’s Biotech Conference.

The event will take place at the Raleigh Convention Center and is expected to draw several hundred people.

North Carolina’s growing biotech industry employs more than 50,000 people statewide, and the cluster of life science firms in the Research Triangle Park region is ranked as the third largest in the country.

A highlight of the conference this year is a series of “partnering meetings” that will match companies wanting to develop partnerships with other life science firms. The one-on-one sessions are set for Monday.

In addition to several keynote speakers, the conference will offer panel discussions and opportunities to explore:

• Pharmaceutical licensing
• Global health
• Personalized medicine
• CEO leadership
• Healthcare reform
• Financing

Guest speakers include:

• Allen Roses, Duke University, who will discuss research at The Deane Drug Discovery Institute at Duke University as well as three companies in which he is actively involved

• Ernest Marion, chairman and chief executive officer at Capnia

• Steve Krognes, chief financial officer at Genetech

• Louis Lange, former chairman and CEO at CV Therapeutics and now general partner at Asset Management

• Billy Tauzin, CEO of the Pharmaceuticals Research and Manufacturers of America

Also at the conference, Randall Marcuson, former CEO at Embrex which was acquired by Pfizer Animal Health, will receive the CED Biotechnology Leadership Award.

The N.C. Biotechnology Center and N.C. BIO are co-sponsors with CED of the conference.

Registration is available at the door.
