RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Gwendolyn Powell Painter, a former executive at GlaxoSmithKline, is the new chief medical officer at biotech startup Chimerix.
Painter is a familiar face at Chimerix where she has worked as a consultant since 2002.
At GSK, she was medical director with responsibility for antiviral clinical safety.
Chimerix is focused on antiviral therapeutics that can be delivered orally.
"[Painter’s] extensive background in all phases of antiviral drug development has been and will be invaluable as we advance our pipeline through the clinical trials process," said Kenneth Moch, chief operating officer at Chimerix.
A medical doctor, Painter received her MD degree at the University of Miami. She also earned a Masters in public health at UNC-Chapel Hill.
