DURHAM, N.C. – Fresh from the financial bloodbath on Wall Street over the past two years, Seth Gardner wants to share lessons learns with MBA students at Duke’s Fuqua Business School.

Fuqua this week named Gardner to lead its new Center for Financial Excellence.

“MBA debt finance education has become stale, and mediocrity is no longer acceptable, even if it’s tolerated, going forward,” Gardner told Daniel Primack of Private Equity Hub. “This isn’t just Washington and Wall Street. Education is the third leg of the stool. If educational institutions don’t realize that – whether its training people who will run banks or PE firms or hedge funds – then we’re falling down on the job.”

Garner has lots to share, having served as a former managing director at Cerberus Capital Management.

A 1994 MBA Duke graduate, Gardner says the upcoming generation of finance professionals are “doomed to repeat past mistakes” unless education changes, Primack wrote.
