MORRISVILLE, N.C. – Lenovo, the world’s No. 4 PC maker, apparently is again considering buying its way to a larger market share in Brazil.
According to Reuters, Lenovo’s chief executive officer and chief operating officer are “open” to the idea of a deal in Brazil. Just a year ago, Leovo explored the possibility of buying Positivo Informatica, the biggest PC maker in Brazil, but talks broke down.
Lenovo, which recently returned to profitability, reportedly offered some $800 million for Positivo last December.
CEO Yuanqing Yang and COO Rory Read were in Sao Paulo for an event when the topic of growing market share in Brazil came up.
"We are always open to find the right company," Reuters quoted Yang as saying. "But the price (of an eventual acquisition) has to be the appropriate for our shareholders."
