Vouchers for free online Microsoft training available across state

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Microsoft is giving the state a boost in worker training for both basic and advanced technology training by providing 23,700 vouchers that North Carolinians can use for online learning and Microsoft certification exams, the state and the company announced Thursday.
Gov. Bev Perdue and Gail Thomas Flynn, Microsoft’s vice president of state and local government affairs, disclosed the new Elevate America program at the Harris Campus of Central Piedmont Community College. It begins immediately on a first-come, first-served basis, they said.
North Carolina will receive 10,500 vouchers for Microsoft Windows and Office online training, 10,500 vouchers for Microsoft Business Certification Exams, and 2,700 vouchers for advanced technical professional level online training, Perdue and Flynn said.
They will be distributed through the North Carolina Community College System, the Division of Workforce Development in the state Department of Commerce and the state Employment Security Commission.
"This partnership will provide North Carolinians with another opportunity to retrain for today’s new economy," Perdue said. "At a time when businesses are seeking a highly qualified, well-trained work force, Elevate America can provide potential employees with new skills to succeed."
