CARY, N.C. — SciQuest and the University of North Carolina system said Wednesday that the universities will begin using SciQuest's e-procurement software on all 16 UNC campuses as part of cost-saving efforts.

E-procurement allows suppliers and buyers to work together electronically and will let the UNC system make statewide acquisitions.

"From Day 1 of my tenure, we've been working on multiple fronts to operate our entire university more efficiently and effectively," Erskine Bowles, president of The University of North Carolina, said in a SciQuest announcement.

"SciQuest has a proven track record of enabling cost savings and increasing efficiencies. I believe this agreement will allow us to realize true cost savings through aggregated systemwide spending," Bowles added. "Transforming procurement from a processing function into a savings enabler is an opportunity that we can't afford to miss."

"As a North Carolina business, we understand the need for cost savings in this state," said Stephen Wiehe, president and CEO of SciQuest. "The University of North Carolina should be applauded for aggressively working to ensure that every dollar spent in support of our universities is utilized for maximum impact."
