GREENSBORO, N.C. — The state's community colleges and Duke Energy today are showing off projects that the utility has funded under a $14 million grant program.
The North Carolina Community College System said the effort has resulted in more than 3,800 jobs being retained in the state and more than 1,000 new jobs created.
Three projects that have received Duke Energy grant money are on display Tuesday. The Duke-backed all are intended to help community colleges deliver critical training in manufacturing and to promote careers in high-tech industries.
One is Guilford Technical Community College's Aviation No. 2 facility at the Greensboro airport, which the college system called "one of the most modern and best-equipped aviation-maintenance training facilities in the Southeast."
Guilford also is showing off its new Career Launch Pad, a 40-foot long, 12-foot high, and 11-foot wide educational lab that promotes careers in manufacturing, green technology, aerospace, health care, energy and life sciences.
Duke Energy said that more than 45 projects have been funded so far and that about $5 million remains to be awarded in the program.
