RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Telecommunications gear Nortel Networks is selling some of its wireless technology to Fujitsu in a deal worth $10 million.

Bankruptcy courts in the U.S. and Canada must still approve the deal. If the courts give their OK, the deal is expected to close before the year ends.

The technology involved was not part of an earlier auction in which Nortel sold wireless technology to Ericsson for more than $1.1 billion.

Nortel is in the process of selling its Optical networking business to Ciena if a higher bid is not received in November.

In addition to the Ericsson deal, Nortel has agreed to sell its Enterprise phone business to Avaya for some $900 million.

Nortel employs some 1,700 people in the Triangle area, many of whom work with the Enterprise business.
