CARY, N.C. – SAS is adding a second solar power farm to its headquarters campus, the new one covering more land and producing more “clean” power.
The farm of solar panels will cover seven acres of ground and produce enough electricity to supply more than 200 homes. It is expected to be completed next March.
Progress Energy will purchase the solar-generated electricity. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The project will create some 10 jobs, SAS said in a statement.
Dubbed Solar Farm 2, the new one will augment the first five-acre farm that went online last December. The second will generate an estimated 1.9 million kilowatt hours a year, the first 1.7 million kilowatts.
groSolar and FLS Energy will build the new farm.
“This solar farm demonstrates SAS’ continued commitment to protecting our environmental resources,” said Jerry Williams, SAS Environmental Sustainability Program Manager. “We hope other organizations will see this as an example of what is possible for them.”
SAS also is building two office structures designed to meet the energy conservation standards known as LEED.
