RTP group playing host to nanotechnology conference

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Researchers from around the country are gathering in the Triangle for a nanotechnology conference.
Put on by the Research Triangle Environmental Health Collaborative, the event is focused on environmentally responsible development of nanotechnology. The conference is taking place at the N.C. Biotechnology Center.
“The Research Triangle region has become the epicenter for contemporary thinking about environmental health, and the Collaborative provides a neutral forum to host candid discussions and to provide advice on the most significant issues facing environmental health and related public policy,” said Collaborative chairman Ken Olden, former director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. “There are still many unknowns about the environmental impact of nanotechnology locally, as well as around the world, and we have many experts in our region focused on various solutions.”
A recent study by the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies listed the Triangle area as the nation’s No. 4 “Nano Metro” behind Boston, San Francisco and San Jose, Calif.
The Triangle Collaborative is a non-profit organization with the purpose of linking government, academia, industry, and public interest groups to discuss environmental health.
The group plans to publish a report about nanotechnology related issues.
